On August 28, 2025, the REACH Coalition held a rally urging Governor Kathy Hochul to sign the AANHPI Education Equity Bill at the David N. Dinkins Municipal Building. Consisting of various nonprofit organizations and students, the REACH Coalition has been advocating for the inclusion of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) history curriculum in New York public schools. Part of the fight includes passing the AANHPI Education Equity Bill, which will conduct a statewide survey on how AANHPI history is taught in our public schools. This bill is especially important, as the survey will highlight the importance of developing an AANHPI history curriculum and understanding what such a diverse and inclusive curriculum might entail. Sponsored by New York State Senator John Liu and New York State Assemblymember Grace Lee, the bill passed in both the New York State Senate and Assembly. Governor Kathy Hochul must now sign the bill for it to become law, allowing the REACH Coalition to progress in its efforts to bring an equitable education curriculum.
