About KCMB-TV
Founded on March 1, 2021, by a group of local Korean American journalists, activists, and community leaders, KCMB-TV was formed to address critical gaps in information equity. KCMB-TV seeks to protect the community with online information and media presence by uplifting the voices and stories by and from the community.
Our beginnings
At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a lot of confusion on top of a lack of information available in languages other than English. Accessing government assistance programs, let alone even knowing about their very existence, was difficult for our vulnerable communities. In addition to having to combat the spike and increase in anti-Asian hate and violence, the most vulnerable of our communities needed information on how to report those violent assaults and crimes. Something had to be done to address these gaps in reliable and credible information dissemination and accessibility. We needed to do something.
The story so far
We have been very busy over the past couple of years. On top of regularly uploading content and programming that covers a wide variety of good work happening right here in our communities, we have also been partnering up with local community based organizations. We even hosted and co-hosted several local in-person events in an effort to bring our communities even closer together.
Where we are going
We have built steady momentum in growing our ability to provide quality content and programming, and there is no stopping yet! As we continue to grow, we are looking into new and exciting ways to expand our reach and better serve our communities. Stay tuned for further announcements on our exciting new projects!
